A True Hero...

Unfortunately, I was not able to attend the funeral of our hero, Sgt. Mickey Hutchens . However, I am watching it on tv. Police officers, not only from the Winston-Salem Police Department but departments from all over North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina and New York attended to pay their respects to Sgt. Mickey Hutchens and his family. It is so touching to see the police officers from up and down the east coast coming together to comfort us and mourn a fallen brother.
Sgt. Hutchens was escorted to Wait Chapel by a horse and buggy. This symbolized Mickey's last tour of duty before being laid to rest. The American Flag was neatly placed on his casket to symbolize Mickey's service to the City of Winston-Salem and the United States.
As I watch the family of Mickey my heart breaks for them. One of his daughters looks completely lost...she has a blank stare on her face, the man beside her is holding her hand and she seems to be lightly holding his. His other daughter has buried her head into the man beside her several times, then turns to look back up at the speakers. His wife looks as if her heart is absolutely broken. You can see the love she has for Mickey just from the look on her face. The speakers spoke with admiration, kindness and respect for Mickey.
As the pallbearers escort Sgt. Hutchens' body to the white hearse all of the police officers salute, showing their respect to the fallen hero. As the police officers walk to their cars, their heads are lowered and all are seemingly somber. Very few are speaking and everyone is walking slowly.
Slowly, the officers are entering their police vehicles. Each vehicle has its blue lights flashing, it is a beautiful sight. This is such an honorable way to say goodbye and celebrate Mickey's life. I can't stop crying...this is so sad, but at the same time it shows everyone what a wonderful police officer, husband, father and man that Sgt. Hutchens was. As it was said during the funeral, Mickey was a wonderful man and anyone that knew him...liked him.
Rest in Peace Sgt. Mickey Hutchins. You will always be in our hearts...you will never be forgotten...See you again one day.
