On October 7, 2009 around 1045. Two Winston-Salem Police Officers were shot.
Sgt. Mickey Hutchens and Officer Daniel Clark. Sgt. Hutchens was shot in the face and Officer Clark was shot in the neck and abdomen.
Officer Clark's shot to the neck was a grazing wound. Luckily, the bullet proof, kevlar vest was there to catch the bullet to the abdomen...it saved his life. He is doing well and has been moved to an observation floor. Hopefully he will go home soon. Sgt. Hutchens is in critical and grave condition. His injuries are life treating. His doctors are unable to say whether he will live...or die.
All of WSPD and their families are praying extremely hard for both of these officers. Our prayers are being heard, because 3 days later Officer Daniel Clark is up and talking to the investigating agency, SBI. Sgt. Hutchens is still hanging in there!
Sgt. Mickey Hutchens has been with the WSPD for 27 years. He has 15 months until retirement. He is very soft spoken and one of the nicest men you will ever meet. I don't think I have ever seen him mad. Officer Daniel Clark has worked with the PD for 5 years. He graduated BLET (Basic Law Enforcement Training) with my husband. He is a very nice man as well. I just found out he and his wife are expecting their first child. Mrs. Clark is 12 weeks pregnant.
I am so proud of the way these two officers carried out their duties and honored the oath that they took to PROTECT AND SERVE! They are true heroes.
My heart is broken...To see friends...officers that are protecting the public, in this condition. Its so hard to see your police family crying, worried, pleading with God. Please God, just let them get through this.
We have already been through a death of an officer only 2 years and 8 months ago. Sgt. Howard Plouff was killed when responding to a fight at a club in Winston-Salem...
This is not fair. We are hurting so bad. We need prayers and God's great mercy. I feel for their families, their friends and our police family. We all know this is the chance they take when they are in this line of work. But we always pray that it doesn't happen.
I feel so guilty right now...I'm relieved that this wasn't my husband or father...But, I also feel so bad because I am relieved...I mostly feel bad because it happened all together...I don't know if that even makes sense...My emotions are running high right now as well as my police family's. I'm always scared when my husband and dad go to work but now that this has happened AGAIN I am even more terrified!
Our city is getting worse. It seems as if there are more bad citizens than good citizens. The majority of this city doesn't look at Police as the "good guys". They believe that we are out to get them...We're the bad ones. Its ridiculous...
"Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Matthew 5:9
THANK YOU SGT. HUTCHENS AND OFFICER CLARK. You are my heroes and I love you!
Please pray for us!
