Drug using parents...

As you can tell from my other posts I am a major advocate of children. I want to do anything and everything to protect children in the United States. However, my power is very limited. I create these posts in an effort to educate parents and the public in general as to what is going on in our country. I hope the negligent parents that I write about in my posts will read these and take some of my advice.

On with the post...Anyone using drugs is not okay, but it is most definitely not okay to use drugs when you are a parent. Using drugs as a parent is teaching your children to break the law, not to deal with their problems, that authority figures don't exist, and to disrespect themselves as well as this country and those that enforce and make the laws. Using drugs around your child is child abuse. I am sick of hearing, "I only use when the kids are asleep". I guess that theory helps them sleep at night... Parents are allowing themselves to be high, hallucinogenic, lethargic, irresponsible (the list goes on and on) around their children. Whether or not they are sleeping shouldn't even be a factor. When they are high they only think about themselves, how they feel and what they want in the moment. They aren't thinking about their children and their needs.
Doing drugs as a parent is negligent and irresponsible. A drug user's behavior is unpredictable, yes even MARIJUANA users! Marijuana IS a drug. Users are often inconsistent with disciplining their children. Their mood swings significantly effect their children they feel as if its their fault that their parents have mood swings and are often unhappy when they (the kids) are awake and only happy when they are in bed. (Remember, the parents only use when the kids are in bed...)

To the parents that use drugs: Children of parents that abuse drugs and alcohol are 29 times more likely to have been the subject of proven physical abuse and 12 times more likely to end up in foster care than the average child of non user parents. Children that have parents that are drug users have a very high chance of being an addicted drug user themselves. Do you really want your child to grow up and be just like you? Children become what they have learned. What is more important to you, your children or drugs?
